| What a day yesterday was! It was someone's birthday so we organised a little trip out of Rome in this little minibus. Wel;eft at about 2pm and stopped first at an Etruscan amphitheatre, it was so stunning, actually carved out of the rock, and now really worn away. We ate cakes there too. Then we got shown a tiny church carved inside a cave with 13th century frescoes painted directly onto the rock. Next we stopped at the Villa LAnte at Bagnaia which has this amazing agrden and the it was about 4-5pm and the light was amazing on all the buildings and scultpure and plants. Then we wandered around trying to find ffod and eventually bought pizza and huge bottles of beer. Our next plan was to go to some hot mineral springs nearby at Viterbo but the first ones weren't looking all that good and the second ones had this guy trying to illegally charge us $40 each to get in so that was no good. So the guy who was doing the driving, who is Italian, said there were some great ones in Tuscany, so we were all like 'bugger it! lets go to Tuscany!' So we found them and they were amazing a big waterfall with terraces full of hot water, and buy the time we got there it was about 8pm so it was really dark and we could see hundreds of stars. there was no where to change so we all sort of stripped off in public, it was dark though! We spent about an hour in there so nice with bubbles and warmth mmmm. Then we got out and it was soooo cold, like about 2 degrees. So we all got dressed so fast and modesty was flung to the winds. Then we found an amazing restaurant in a tiny town and had dinner and didn't leave till about midnight. It was about a 3hr drive back to Rome so to help the driver stay awake and because we were all slightly tipsy and silly we were singing songs all the way back to Rome. So fun! |
